MESA was established in December 2025 to provide the mining and civil construction industries with only the best of the best operators, leaders, and specialists.

The business was founded to address the growing need for highly skilled, safety-focused, and performance-driven personnel across production mining and civil construction projects.

Martin Matenga

Operations Director

Martin Matenga is the Director of Mining Excavators and Shovels of Australia Pty Ltd (MESA) and brings over 30 years of senior leadership experience across Australia’s mining and construction sectors. He has held executive and senior operational roles with Tier 1 mining companies, including Project Manager, Operations Manager, and Operations Superintendent roles.

Martin has led large-scale operations across iron ore, gold, nickel, coal, magnetite, rare earths, mineral sands and lithium commodities, as well as major civil construction, demolition, and environmental rehabilitation projects nationwide. His leadership is grounded in operational excellence, workforce capability, safety performance, and production efficiency, setting the strategic direction for MESA and ensuring the delivery of measurable value to clients.

Callum Ngawhare

Managing Director

Callum Ngawhare is the Managing Director of Mining Excavators and Shovels of Australia Pty Ltd (MESA), bringing extensive leadership and operational experience from his tenure with BHP Nickel West and Doral Mineral Sands. His expertise is centred on people leadership, safety governance, and operational compliance within high-risk production mining environments.

Callum has successfully led large, multi-disciplinary teams across multiple operational functions, ensuring consistent safety outcomes, workforce performance, and operational discipline. He is responsible for the execution of MESA’s operational strategy and the delivery of high-performing personnel across all client sites.

Chris Wood

Commercial & Compliance Officer

Chris Wood is the Commercial & Compliance officer of Mining Excavators and Shovels of Australia Pty Ltd (MESA) and brings significant international and Australian mining experience to the business. He has owned and operated mining contractor services companies in Namibia and South africa, providing deep expertise in commercial governance, contract management, and business risk.

Chris has also held senior positions with major mining contractors in Australia and delivered consulting services across Dubai and the wider UAE. His leadership ensures MESA maintains strong commercial discipline, regulatory compliance, and governance frameworks that support sustainable growth and client confidence.
